From December 26, 2004 through till July 31, 2006, for 500 plus evenings, ZULA booked exclusively at RIME, a Turkish eatery and music room on Commercial Drive in East Vancouver. During this fertile 20 month period, Rime became a neighbourhood gathering place for local artists and adventurous listeners, both die-hard and freshly initiated. Over the span of a month, one could often take in everything from bluegrass to improvised music, hip-hop to songwriters, dub to classical… pop, jazz, folk traditions, punk, blues, new music, film, spoken word, dance (modern, traditional, including belly, burlesque), live painting, puppeteers, workshops, political meetings and more…
Below, you can check out some of the posters from this period. There aren’t as many as one might think, because the monthly calendars were an effective tool to get the word out and inform.
These calendars are available in text form, as well as PDF downloads under the respective monthly posts in the Archives for August 2006. Click here to get there.
